James Thomas wins SWDA Young Dealmaker of the Year

Go-getter James is becoming an Icon for deals

He’s the Young Dealmaker of the Year with a growing reputation for putting together multi million pound packages with a Midas touch.

The Young Dealmaker category is perhaps the most hotly contested of all the awards, so for James Thomas to walk away with the trophy makes his achievement even more notable.

James, joined ICON in 2000 from BT where he was a senior financial analyst.

Before that he was a manager at Deloitte and Touche Corporate Finance where he specialised in handling all aspects of corporate finance transactions including management buyouts, disposals and venture capital transactions.

At ICON, James specialises in management buyouts/buy ins and raising funds for early stage and fast growth technology companies with particular focus on semi-conductors, software, telecos, telematics and environmental technologies.

Among the major deals he has worked on are the £801 million disposal of NCP to Cendant Corporation and the disposal of a UK based electronics manufacturer to Nasdaq -listed company in a cross border $70million share for share exchange. At ICON, he has managed transactions on behalf of TrafficMaster plc and Dan Computers plc and has been involved in completing deals in the last year with leading Venture Capital firms Apax Partners, 3i and Doughty Hanson amongst others.

With colleague Eddie Harding’s victory in the corporate finance adviser category, ICON made it a double celebration. The growing stature of the firm has come from a rapid rise in its deal total.

ICON has completed a number of deals over the past month including advising the shareholders of Tech Computer Office (TCO) on its sale to CACI International Inc, a £7.5million fundraising for ATS from BAA Plc, start up funding for online travel operator Brilliant Weekends and the £ 2.1million pound MBO of Trilogy Broadcasting.
