ICON Gives Back

Unicef
In 2010 Nicky chose UNICEF as her ICON charity.
The money saved in sending an e-christmas card has been donated to UNICEF to buy a deep-well hand water pump to provide clean, safe drinking water to a whole village in a developing country.

Help for Heroes
In 2009 Alan chose Help for Heroes as his ICON charity
Help for Heroes (H4H) is a British charity launched in September 2007 to help provide better facilities for wounded British servicemen and women. It was founded by Bryn Parry, a cartoonist and former member of The Royal Green Jackets, after he visited soldiers at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
It has also attracted support from national newspapers, such as The Sun and The Sunday Times and The X Factor tv show who released a charity single in aid of both H4H and the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, with a cover version of the Mariah Carey song "Hero".

Save The Children
In 2008 Sebastian chose Save The Children as his ICON charity.
Save The Children work flat out to get every child their rights, and to stop millions of children dying each year. They are determined to make further, faster changes to the lives of children in the UK and around the world.

Make A Wish Foundation
In 2008 Lisette chose as her ICON charity the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Make-A-Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.
At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions. In 2009, around 1,000 children turned to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted.

The Shine Theatre Trust - 2007
In 2007 Alan chose The Shine Theatre Trust as his ICON charity.
Shine Theatre Trust aims to provide, manage and maintain a centre for performing arts in Sussex for all young people, including those with additional learning, mobility or social needs, to enable them to experience, produce and perform in shows of a professional standard.

Oxfam
In 2006 James chose Oxfam as his ICON charity.
Oxfam International is a confederation of 13 organisations working with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
Oxfam was originally founded in England in 1942 as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief by a group of Quakers, social activists, and Oxford academics.

Christian Aid
In 2006 Julia chose Christian Aid as her ICON Charity.
Christian Aid is one of the biggest international development agencies in the world. It was formed and is still backed by the major Christian churches in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
It works with local partner organisations in over 60 countries around the world to help the world's poorest communities.

CLIC Sargent
In 2005 Eddie chose CLIC Sargent as his charity.
CLIC Sargent is a cancer charity in the United Kingdom. It was formed by the merger of Sargent Cancer Care for Children and Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood and specializes in providing support for children.
Sargent Cancer Care for Children was founded in 1968 in memory of the conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent, who died a year earlier from pancreatic cancer. Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood was founded in 1976 by Bob Woodward after his son died of cancer. The two charities merged in 2005.
Eddie also does an annual charity mountain bike ride called CLIC24 to raise funds for CLIC.

JDRF - The Juvenile Diabetes Research Founation - 2005
In 2005 Brian chose the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as his ICON charity.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide.
The mission of JDRF is to seek a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Shelter
In 2004 Alan chose Shelter as his ICON charity.
Shelter helps people in housing need by providing advice and practical assistance, and fights for better investment in housing and for laws and policies to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people.

Unicef
In 2004 Nicky chose UNICEF as her ICON charity.
UNICEF (or The United Nations Children's Fund); was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II.
Today UNICEF provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.
